Topic: jQuery Fundamentals & Plugin Development
Presenter: Matt Simms
Details:
Matt will provide an overview of JQuery basics including selectors, DOM interaction, events and asynchronous calls.
He will then build on the basics demonstrating plugin development and showing examples of existing plugins like jQuery Templates, TimeAgo, and Placeholder that help you “write less, do more”
Speaker Bio:
Matt Simms is a Consultant at SwiftRadius, a dynamic, Atlantic Canada based IT consulting firm, focused on enabling business through information technology.
With experience spanning over 8 years in the IT industry, Matt has performed both technical and software development roles across a variety of sectors.
Matt has been developing with the .NET Framework since 2003 having been involved in various projects including internal and public facing ASP.NET applications and web services and line of business WindowsForms.
Wanting to connect with other local developers, he has begun to actively participate in the developer community by co-organizing events and presenting for the Fredericton .NET User Group.
Maritime DevCon is Back
Maritime DevCon 2011 is on and the date is fast approaching. This year DevCon is a full day event in Fredericton, NB. We will be at the fantastic Wu Conference Centre on the University of New Brunswick campus. A full lunch will be provided along with morning and afternoon refreshments.

Introduction to ICEfaces 2.0: Next Gen JSF AJAX Development
This hands-on 50 minute presentation will provide a complete introduction to the ICEfaces 2 framework. You’ll learn how ICEfaces 2 extends JSF 2 with features such as Ajax Push, Direct-to-DOM, and Automatic AJAX and allows you to easily build rich Web 2.0 apps without requiring any knowlege of Javascript or AJAX. The hands-on demo will show you how to easily build rich, data-driven Enterprise applications with ICEfaces 2 with the Eclipse Helios 3.6 IDE using JPA, JSF 2, Facelets, and ICEfaces 2.
About the speaker: Philip Breau has over 6 years of experience developing Enterprise apps with JSF. He has worked at ICEsoft Technologies on ICEfaces since 2006 in Component and Framework development, Training, and Engineering Services.

Topic: MongoDB for the Non-Zealot
Presenter: Chris Nicholls (filling in for Derek Hatchard)
Details:

MongoDB is a document-oriented database and a poster child for the NoSQL movement. Although not a golden panacea, MongoDB has proven to be useful for certain types of problems. Derek Hatchard will provide an introduction to MongoDB including core concepts and examples of how to work with MongoDB from Java, C#, Python, and the command line interface.

Speaker Bio
Chris is a software developer for Radian6 and co-founder of TwitCritics.com, an app that automatically identifies and classifies movie reviews on twitter. He holds a masters degree from the University of Guelph where he researched Sentiment Analysis and Natural Language Processing and is a Google Summer of Code alumnus.
Derek Hatchard is a software architect and a founder of CrowdSpace.net (a web- based tool for clubs, community groups, and churches to track and communicate with members) and Careertown.ca (an IT job board for Canadian technologists).
